Hiding in Plain Sight

The Barron County Community Coalition received a grant through Security Health to help address prescription drug misuse.  As part of the grant, the coalition created 15 Hiding in Plain Sight Backpacks. These backpacks are an expansion of the Hiding in Plain Sight mock bedroom project that the Coalition and Sheriff’s Department have been running for the past 18 months. The mock bedroom and backpacks are used to educate parents and community members on dangers that can be hiding in plain sight.

Local schools were given educational backpacks filled with drug related items that can be used to  disguise where drugs and paraphernalia can be hiding amidst common items. These backpacks will be used to inform teachers, school personnel, and parents of red flags that can signal substance use in students. Unfortunately, technology makes it easier to access products that help disguise where drugs are hidden. This backpack gives just a small sample of what is out there.
